Starting at 7 AM this Monday, nationwide elections were officially launched in Rwanda, with voting for the President and Members of Parliament. The process began with election officials at the sites taking an oath before the citizens to conduct these elections transparently and freely.

The voting commenced. Among the voters were elderly men and women, men and women, and a significant number of young people voting for the first time, who expressed their satisfaction with how they were received and how freely they were able to vote.

Those who voted at the Niboye site, one of the three in Niboye Sector, Kicukiro District, spoke with Isango Star.

Mrs Grace KABATESI said 'The uniqueness of today is that everything is well organized, there is good security, everything was well arranged, there were no long lines, you could vote quickly and go back home.'

John KABATSINGA added 'It's my first time voting; choosing a leader is a good thing so that they can lead us well. We have to choose wisely to be well-governed.'

TwagirayezuBonavanture, who was in charge of election activities in Niboye Sector, thanked those who participated in the elections this time and encouraged them to do the same the following day.

He said, 'We greatly appreciate you; they have become accustomed to the election process and have made it their own. They wake up early and vote in large numbers. What we ask of them is to maintain the same enthusiasm and to follow the rules because laws govern elections. We have not seen anyone breaking the law, and the officials they will vote for should also attend early, just like today, so they can also proceed with their other duties.

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) stated that combining the presidential and parliamentary elections into the same period has reduced the budget for these elections from 11 billion Rwandan francs to 8 billion Rwandan francs.
