The authorities in RUHANGO district opt for the use of GALS method to fight against family conflicts

The authorities of Ruhango district say that in order to deal with family conflicts, there is the use of the GALS (Gender Action Learning System) so that family members are influenced by the principle of equality and harmony, as it is the source of a safe and prosperous society. The emphasis was made a time when this method has helped 302 families out of conflict since its inception.

Some residents of Ruhango district say that this method has caused disputes in their families that resulted from hiding their properties. They say that they were influenced by the teachings that made them prosper.
One person said: "We lived together in an unclear way because in GALS we learned a lot, including the fact that you grow animals or money, such as property that does not live at home, so you find that one works and hides here, the other hides here". Like me, I was in a group that he didn't know, but that money came to buy animals.
"It's just a conflict of misunderstanding to trust each other. But once we were trained we realized it was a mistake."
The man said to me, "The way my partner and I were living together, I was able to find 15,000 jobs and then I was able to show five, the other 10 and plant them (hide). It had the effect of poverty because there was a disagreement that the money would be productive."
Ruhango District Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, Rusilibana Jean Marie Vianney, says that the PRISM Project of the government of Rwanda is being implemented in cooperation with the IFAD fund through RAB, which has helped the district to deal with the issue of conflict in families and it has gone beyond those who are supported by the project to other families.
He said, "You have reduced the conflict to a very good extent so that even in the Ruhango district, according to statistics, there is no conflict based on gender-based violence, you can find it higher, through all the published research."
"Otherwise, if you count the number of people PRISM had to reach in Ruhango district, they are few. But this course reached more than that army. Since PRISM, all the activities we do work closely with the authorities so that they learn lessons and teach people in the community meetings."
In the last four years, the PRISM project has trained 549 psychologists using the GALS method.
5,557 people have been trained, while the goal was to teach 4,952 people, which means that the goal exceeded 12%. Especially in Ruhango region, this course has helped 302 families to get out of the conflict completely.
