Some of the residents of Gatsibo District in the Nyagihanga Sector say that there are parents who still express the feeling that a mother who does not use traditional medicine will not give birth properly or if they give her advice that they should stop because the doctor is the one who can know what the mother needs and he can help her.
The parents said that this attitude is there but they think it is not appropriate, but they should follow the doctor's advice because if you follow the doctor's advice, do not use those medicines and you will give birth well.
Mrs. Ahobantegeye Françoise is a breastfeeding mother who lives in Kabuye Village, Mayange Cell, Nyagihanga Sector, she said: "I have never taken anything herbal, I have followed the doctor's instructions and I have seen the results of my birth and my children are alive and big."
She continued: "The advice I would give to those who use these drugs before they conceive children should first be confident that the doctor's advice is valid and once they are pregnant, they should follow the doctor's advice."
The worker in charge of maternal and child health, adolescents, and young people in the Ministry of Health, Gitera Joseph, said that they also have this problem. they know because the deaths of children are mainly caused by this problem but he asks parents to trust the doctors.
He said: "We often see mothers who accompany others who come to give birth and bring them medicine to put on their stomachs so that they can get pregnant again, and they bring them bows to wrap around them so that they are pregnant and then they leave it and find that it causes the mother to have sudden contractions and rupture the intestine, so we encourage the parents to stop doing it."
Statistics provided by the Ministry of Health (MINISANTE) show that 203 mothers out of 100,000 live births die, and 19 out of 100,000 babies die per year.
