The Call for Peace Echoes in Osaka: DPCW 9th Anniversary Commemoration Held

At the HWPLs 9th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) held across 93 countries around the globe, a significant step toward Korean Peninsula unification was taken with the launch of the Preparatory Committee for the Peaceful Unification of the Korean Peninsula. HWPL, headquartered in South Korea, organized the event, under the themeBuilding Bridges for Korean Reunification: Establishing Legal and Practical Frameworks for Peace.

The event drew about a thousand domestic and international leaders, outlining a comprehensive plan for a nationwide peace and unification initiative.
On March 23, an anniversary ceremony was also held in Osaka, Japan, where approximately 80 peace activists, citizens, and HWPL members gathered to express their wish for achieving global peace.
Since its proclamation on March 14, 2016, the DPCW has been at the center of HWPLs annual commemorative events, aiming at institutionalizing peace.
The event began with an introduction to the significance of the Anniversary Ceremony, which originated in South Korea, followed by an in-depth explanation of the legal foundation of the DPCW in achieving world peace. Drafted in collaboration with international legal experts from 15 countries, the DPCW comprises 10 articles and 38 clauses, outlining principles and mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts while fostering a peaceful global society.
Furthermore, it defines the specific roles of individuals, communities, and nations in achieving lasting peace. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the DPCWs impact on international peacebuilding.
During the event, the future activity plans of the Kobe and Nagoya branch leaders were announced, highlighting HWPLs commitment to strengthening its peace network in Japan. This reinforced participants' expectation for further peace initiatives.
The event also featured a membership registration campaign and a petition drive supporting the DPCW. Participants actively engaged by writing and sharing personal peace messages.
A cooperating official Mr. Morimoto Tadanori, Yamato Takada City Representative from Nara Prefectural Japan-North Korea Friendship Association, stated,
It was truly inspiring to witness how people can come together in the shared mission of promoting peace. And, it would be wonderful to see more young people from Japan actively participating in these events. Their involvement is crucial in shaping a peaceful future for all.
HWPL plans to expand peace initiatives actively in Japan and strengthen collaboration with various organizations and individuals to advance international peace efforts.
