Various residents mainly residents of Mbogo sector in Rulindo district told Isango Star that having health insurance seems to be useless.  They say that when they go to health centers they don't get the medicine, they are told to buy from pharmacies as they don't have insurance.

Mrs. MUKAKABERA Louise, a 37-year-old woman said: “We pay for health insurance but then we don't get treatment!  They attend to you but do not give you medicine, instead, if you want to be treated, you go and buy it.  So you find that it is useless.”

Mr. RUGOMERA John said: “Normally if you have medical insurance you are supposed to be treated 100% without a penny!  If you pay money and you’re not treated, then it’s useless to have medical insurance there, treatment at the hospital without your money is useless!”

Some people say that the fact that health insurance seems to be undervalued increases the number of people opting for traditional medicine because they are afraid of the money it will cost them to go to the hospital, some choose to travel from home to home.
