WOMEN ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE TECHNOLOGY

International Women’s day was celebrated in Nyangatare district on the national level and focused on the theme highlighting the need for women and girls to use technology as research shows that only 48% of women use technology compared to 62% of men, a factor which forced them to seek for support to use technology.

International Women’s day celebrated for its 48th occasion stressed that’’ no one
should be left behind for innovation in technology’’. This is what motivated
Nyagatare women say that they are proud of what they have achieved in
development.

Mrs. NYIRAMBERE BERANCILE, the representative Of Rwanda National
Women's Council reiterated that women and girls should be the first to participate
in technology and know how to innovate because they are still lagging behind
in using technology.

‘Because of culture that had marginalized them, they did not participate in the
use of technology, that is why we encourage women and girls to study
technology so they can help their parents who did not have the opportunity to
own a phone.
The survey shows that three million Rwandans are illiterate.
The minister of information technology Mrs. INGABIRE Paula said that it is
important to the nation as it provides an opportunity for a woman to foster
development, so they should take advantage of it.

She added ‘’Statistics show that we still have a low number of Rwandans who own
modern phones, a lot is being done, among others, facilitating them to own
phones in various regions, the biggest challenge why Rwandans don’t possess

phones are their high cost. Today in Rwanda 48% of women use technology while
men are 62%.’’
International women ‘s day is celebrated since 1972, three years later, Rwanda
started celebrating the day in 1975. It was celebrated on 48 occasions.
