She did this after being taught by a group called Peacemakers of Christ, which was founded by Father Ubald Rugirangonga, who is already well-known in the Catholic Church.
Father Ubald gave the program the theme "Mercy in repairing the broken relationship between Rwandans."
After being taught by this family, Mrs. Uwimana Agnes said that she had the strength to want to forgive those who killed her family and those who were involved in destroying her house, and took a step to find them and forgive them.
She continued, "I was at a place where I didn't go to other people because I felt that I was meeting those who killed my family. After this man (Karekezi Emmanuel) was released, I was afraid to leave the house and I was always afraid that he would kill me, but when I was influenced by the teaching, I sent him and told him that I forgave him and felt freed."
She went on to say that when she forgave Karekezi Emmanuel, he did not accept it because they used to meet in a group and immediately say goodbye or they meet on the road and everyone looks for another way to go.
She says that when she gave him forgiveness, now everyone visits each other.
Mrs. Uwimana asked other people who have not forgiven those who killed their people to try to forgive them because it makes everyone more relaxed and improves the relationship between them.
Karekezi Emmanuel, who was pardoned, said that he was involved in the death of Uwimana Agnes's husband because he was involved in the attack that went to kill her. he said that after he pleaded guilty and was released, he was often afraid to meet this woman because he felt ashamed of the way he killed her husband; He says that now they live well because he forgave her.
Mrs. Mukayiranga Laurence, the representative of the Union and Reconciliation Commission said that those who ask for forgiveness and those who give them will open new doors of relations and live more like brothers.
Mukayiranga asks those who receive amnesty to continue their journey to help them educate others who participated in the genocide against the Tutsis but have not yet apologized to the families they betrayed.
Six people confessed to the crime and asked for forgiveness from the families who betrayed them in front of the Christians in Rwamagana Parish on Sunday, which is the second time that the Peacemakers have united the families of those who were killed and those who were lost people in genocide in unity with 'reconciliation.
Each class is first taught for six months before being brought together to apologize to the families through it.
