In early Rwanda, couples lived together but everything in the house belonged to the man; here we mean livestock, fields, houses, wife, and anything else a man claims to be his own. A woman was only responsible for domestic work and taking care of the children.

Mrs. Mukansanga Trifonie who lives in Gakenke district says that the policy of principles of gender equality and harmony has come as a great answer for women because they were oppressed before this policy was established because no woman could get money to contribute to her household. She says that even a woman who tried to do so was considered to disrespect her husband or women who behave like a man called 'igishegabo' in Kinyarwanda.

Mrs. Mukansanga added that she is grateful to the Rwandan government for thinking of them and seeing that they are also capable as women because that is what made them confident and now they are working with their husbands to improve the family through the principle of equality and harmony.

Her husband, Ntibeheza Timothe, 62 years old, confirms that before this policy, the way the men behaved, everything belonged to them as men. No woman would have anything of her own in the house; even if she had where to procure it because it would have ended up in the house of a man, and would become the owner of the house and cause strife in the family.

He believes that the principle of equality is the source of conflict resolution.

“It is one of the things that has helped to resolve the constant conflict in the family because we all now work together and contribute to the development of our home. Now the woman is working with the man to get medical insurance fees, pay for the children's education, buy for them the clothes, get food, and so on," Ntibeheza disclosed.

Mrs. Mukansanga and Ntihezwa say that they now thank the Rwandan government for bringing the principle of equality and harmony because it made them live well in the family, help each other in all work, and develop as they show.

They say they now have a secure and purposeful family.

Mrs. Kayitesi Goreti, responsible for reproductive health, promoting the principle of equality and harmony, and combating gender-based violence in the Pro-femmes Organization, emphasizes this program gave positive results in the Rwandan community through the testimonies received from men and women who changed because of knowing this principle.

In an interview with Isango Star, she said: "We love to hear the testimony of men and women who thank us for helping them know and understand the principle of equality and harmony because it has helped them a lot, she said ' a woman is now doing business and cross the border of Rwanda and go abroad to do it and our men have no problem with it and they consider it as working together while before they consider it as a woman who starts to disruptive behavior, this is something we are proud of because men also help us in everything and we live together.

Non-Governmental Organizations and government institutions are responsible for promoting this policy of principles of gender and harmony while continuing the program to assist the people who have low- consciousness to remove the remaining gap, their goal is to promote this principle to reach 100%.
