Residents of Mamba and Muganza sectors are happy to have access to clean water again after the pipeline that brought water from Nyabimata in Nyaruguru District, which had been broken for 6 years, was fixed.
In an interview with Isango Star, residents of these sectors, one parent said, “We used to go to the well to fetch bad water, but now we fetch clean water. We use clean water, and we give it to our cows as well. This water has helped us stay clean.”
Another said, “Because of this clean water, we can now wash and do house chores. How could you go fetch water in a single jerrycan and then use it for cleaning? And we used to fetch it from far away, but now the water is closer. We fetch it nearby, and it meets quality standards.”
“Getting water used to take a lot of effort. We had to go all the way to fetch it! Many would fetch it from down there, and after the white people worked on it, the water started flowing. We used to make trips to fetch it from there.”
Jerome Rutaburingoga, the Mayor of Gisagara District, says that when the pipeline broke, they decided to find solutions within their means and seek other water sources within Gisagara. He adds that efforts to bring water closer to the people are ongoing, particularly in the Kansi and Kigembe sectors.
Currently, in Gisagara District, a clean water pipeline spanning 112 km has been completed in Mamba and Muganza sectors. It is expected to provide clean water to over 38,000 residents. The district has now reached 78.4% in providing clean water to its residents."
