
Musanze: 65 houses destroyed by the rains were handed over to tiles

65 families in the Kinigi and Nyange sectors in Musanze District, were given tiles to seal their houses after the snow damaged the tiles during the rain on March 25, 2023.

After the snow damaged the tiles of their houses, the residents continued to live in worry, some of them went to shelter with their neighbors when it rained at night and returned to their homes when the rain stopped.
In an interview with Media on February 15th , 2024, when they were presented with the tiles, an event held at the headquarters of the Kinigi Sector, they said that they were relieved of the stress they had caused due the rain.
One of our source Mr Semariro Celestin said, "I was living in such a way that at night my wife and our seven children went to find a place to stay. The house was covered with snow and all the tiles were broken but now I am going back home”.
Mrs Mukafeza Petronille said: "I am happy because I recieved tiles, the rain poured and the snow pierced the tiles , we asked for help from leaders and they visited us and asked us to be patient and pointing out problems will be solved , now we thank God that they advocated for us and we got the tiles".
Mrs Mukafeza Petronille added: “The rain pouring and I was stuck, where I was sheltered and I moved to another place which was even worse. I was in a house with 20 tiles that had been damaged, but now I am happy and I am going to live in my house hormoniously.

It is a grant from the Government through SACOLA, the Association for the Conservation of the Volcanoes National Park and the environment in general, and to improve the well-being of thepeople residing aound the Volcanoes National Park , especially the residents of Nyange and Kinigi Sectors, so they can better understand the attractions of the Park.
Musanze district authorities are proud of the work done by the donor SACOLA, in the development of the welfare of the people, the authorities says that the district has given promises related to helping the people who have suffered from the disaster, to building a new house according to the Mayor of Musanze District Deputy Social Welfare Officer, Mr Kaziranga Theobald says.
He said, "In the district, we have 50 families that do not have houses, and we have 74 families that have houses that are not in good condition. This year we will build 120 houses as a district, and more will be built by our partners. You see that these families are being helped by SACOLA to be accommodated, which is different from the houses we will build as a District".
