The National Child Development Agency, NCDA, says that the home-based child development program works across government institutions, markets, and other places.
As part of the Government of Rwanda's plan to develop programs for the development of children's education from an early age, a program for child care known as ECD [Early Childhood Development] has been established across the country.
As part of the Rwandan Government's program to promote the advancement of children's welfare and education from an early age, Early Childhood Development Centers (ECD) have been established both within the country and nationally.
These centers are facilities where children are enrolled and provided with care, education, and support to develop intellectually and socially. They also help parents by providing them with guidance, imparting parenting skills, and involving them in their children's education.
Speaking to Isango Star at Ingenzi School located in the NYAMIRAMBO sector, Nyarugenge district, Kigali city, UWIMANA Neema, a daycare worker said,
Isango Star visited Ingenzi School located in the Nyamirambo sector in Nyarugenge district, Kigali city, and met a mother named Mrs UWIMANA Neema who said that something is helping the children.
She says, "Having a child in the ECD greatly helps them because they get to learn the basics first. It's not that a child can't cope with school; they are well-prepared. We teach them various things to follow. We teach them to read properly, to count, the alphabet... When a child attends ECD, there are certain things they learn."
Various parents say that the nurseries have solved the lack of place where they would leave their children while going to work. However, they want it to be brought to their place of work; it’s almost like a marketplace and other places that serve people.
Mrs. Jane NYIRANSABIMANA said, “When a child studies far away from home, it worries.”
In an interview with Isango Star, Mrs. Jaqueline NYIRANEZA said “When a child is at school, as a parent you feel safe and comfortable.”
The acting manager in charge of child development and protection, Mrs Diane IRADUKUNDA said: “It’s very important because the child is provided with all the services and taken care of much better, the fact that the child studies closer to the mother’s workplace makes her feel say and this helps to be more productive.”
In the national program to accelerate the development of NST1, the Government of Rwanda wants the activities of health workers around the country to be improved so that they receive the necessary equipment including; books, manuals, and empowering childcare providers.
There is also basic infrastructure and all the necessities and this program reaches all children under six years of age.
