Community health care workers sector to be strengthened

While some say that increasing the number of healthcare workers would improve the quality of healthcare services, the Ministry of Health confirms that there is a plan to recruit some young volunteers to be trained to provide healthcare services through technology, modern equipment, and strengthening the sector.

This information was also confirmed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Julien Mahoro Niyingabira, who said that it is a plan designed to reform the community healthcare sector.
‘’The purpose of this initiative is to empower the level of health workers so they can utilize various resources and technologies efficiently. These resources are integrated into the services provided in health care, including technological tools, and information derived from the community health care services sector can be analyzed and utilized for further improvements. This approach is designed to enhance the effectiveness of youth volunteers so that this sector be reinforced with additional capacity’’.
Some people believe that when this program is implemented, it will be productive, and improve the quality of the services provided in health care as there was a gap due to a limited number of health workers.
Mrs. Joseline MUKAGASANA said, "If there were more volunteers, the services would improve, the health care workers would stay close and no one would get sick and stay at home".
In an interview with Isango Star, Madam Claudine KANTENGWA also said” It will help many people, including those who used to get seriously sick from home, those young volunteers will help them".
She further added, "There were times when you were sick at home and you ran to a health worker nearby and found that he told you that I don't have medicine or he told you that there is no equipment and you found it difficult if I add that youth something will increase".
Currently, there are more than 60,000 community health workers in the whole country who are used for various health services delivery to make it easier for the people to access these services and also reach out to the village level.
