Discussing the issue of flu, which many people confuse with COVID-19, the Ministry of Health highlighted that usually in these months at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year, cough and flu often affect people and are contagious. According to him (Julien Mahoro Niyangabira), spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.
He said, "They should know that it is an infectious disease, when a person feels symptoms they avoid spreading it to other people, but when the symptoms become severe and a person feels seriously ill, it is important to go to the doctor so that doctors can help treat these symptoms to stop the spread ".
Some residents say that cough and flu are very spreading rapidly and some say that they are sick and they confused it with COVID-19 but they went for a check-up and found out that it was cough and flu.
In an interview with Isango Star, Velene BYANDAGA, a primary school teacher said “The influenza is so strong to the extent that some people think that it is mutated COVID-19, you find all people in the household are sick". It is chronic flu, a person takes medicine for about five days and does not heal, she added.
The Ministry of Health spokesperson Mr. Julien Mahoro Niyibagira quashed worries among locals. He had this to say ‘’although the symptoms may be the same, the sampling has something to show us about the flu and have something to show us about COVID-19, what we have seen spreading in the last 3 years is the flu, having the same symptoms does not necessarily mean it is COVID-19, we want to reassure people that it not mutated COVID-19.
A study by the Ministry of Health shows that currently twelve thousand people are suffering from flu and cough, and there is a significant decrease to last year, seventeen thousand were diagnosed with flu and cough.
