NYARUGENGE: Launch of the operating room renovation
Aug 3, 2023 - 17:28
Nyarugenge District Hospital launched the 3rd operating room that will bring access to other surgical operations. This room will support the other two already there but are not fully equipped for the needs of mothers who have undergone surgery.

Doctor Deborah ABIMANA, the director general of Nyarugenge Hospital, said that the hospital was built with 2 operating rooms which have been helping the community when it mattered, especially for maternal cases. She said that whenever there were several cases, of cesarian and other surgery, the doctors on the spot had the obligation to first serve women and make other people wait.
"This room is very important because (...) we were facing the problem of having 2 rooms where we treat people who are undergoing surgery, but these rooms are strictly reserved for mothers who are giving birth. When it is time to give birth and mothers need cesarian, it's a very urgent matter."
"And after that, many other patients who needed surgical treatment for other diseases came to us, so we sent them to other nearby hospitals when we could have treated them here at the hospital."

She then ensures that the 3rd operating room will allow for the good functioning of the hospital, from where they will not have to mix maternal cases and other surgery cases in the same rooms as was done before or to transfer them.
"What it's going to solve is to decrease the number of patients we send elsewhere…,” she said. Mr. Emmy NGABONZIZA, The District Executive Administrator of Nyarugenge, is amazed by this great achievement, he, therefore, congratulates the leaders and sponsors of this hospital.
“We are so happy for this big accomplishment of having a new operating room that will have to facilitate a good service of the hospital in the department of cesarean," NGABONZIZA said.

The construction of this 3rd room was sponsored by Medical Mission for Children in the amount of $50.000. This innovation puts the hospital in a great position to maximize the quality of the services they offer in the community, especially in maternity. It aligns as well the hospital’s vision with the government of Rwanda’s goal.
